Might Make a Nice (Temporary) Senior Center

Or a B-grade Horror Flick with some editing.

It's 72-74 State Street. Nice joint.

Or maybe the closed Rosie O'Shea's would make a better Senior Center. Hell, I'd consider joining if they kept the Guinness taps.

Yes. Its close to the library, banks, coffee shops, post office, and parking. I think it would make a good short term solution for seniors.

Maybe it was mine.

It does appear that there is ample space for a temporary Senior Center. The question I have is the rental cost. If memory serves me well, the City is paying around $1,500 a month to rent the Salvation Army space. Does anyone know what is being asked to rent out the space shown in the video?

No idea. What are we getting for $1500? I hope more than an office.

Tom,

Hey, I think you may be onto something. It looks perfect! People can play cards or whatever in those big windows and watch the world go by ...

Sorry to say, but I saw a sign on Rosie O'Shea's door a couple of weeks ago telling vendors where to call to arrange to pick up their fixtures ...

I think it is an office we get from the Salvation Army, plus use of gym and other common rooms when they aren't using them. But I hear there are rumblings from the Salvation Army about the whole deal - or used to be, anyway.

If it's so great, why should it be temporary? It could be a cost saving alternative.

Well, the idea certainly has been discussed.

There are no original thoughts in this city, only forgotten ones.

Sure...what's the square footage? What's the monthly rent? Is it triple net?

How long will the lease be? Will you install the phone, fax, and DSL? Will you do the marketing so seniors will know where it is?

The whole building (70-80 State) was purchased in 1986 for 375K (according to http://gis.nbpt.us/)so the owner will probably be really nice and lower the rent for a good cause. Let's just rent it before the Gap moves in.

The only Gap coming to this town can be found on Pleasant Street in a few months.

Ba dump bum.

Seriously now folks. I have no idea what the lease will be.

I will not install phone, fax and DSL, but since it's been renovated recently I'm guessing the bones are in place.

And I will not market to seniors.

I will, however, take full credit if this ever comes to fruition.

Seriously, I'd be shocked if this site wasn't discussed already. In fact, Jim Stiles made mention of such a location during the mayoral campaign

But, just like the TV News, it became news when I got video.

It certainly would be worth a phone call, wouldn't it?
