Four Day Work Week

I like the idea. Makes a ton of sense. Makes less sense for DPW guys I suspect, particularly in the winter when daytime is scare. But I like it.

I do agree with James Shanley though. Seems a bit nibbly-around-the-edges. But you've got to start somewhere.

RE: "Nibbling around the edges" question

Maybe a bigger impact would come from shutting the schools down for a longer period in the Winter and open a bit longer at the front and back end of the session. Two more weeks of no school bus heaters need, minimal school heating, etc. might help substantially.

Also why not have the high school on a four day schedule. I would imagine the teachers would like the avoided commute, the kids could work part time, play sports or practice guitar and we get utility savings.

Wow. The four-day school week is an interesting thought. I wonder how that would impact sports schedules. Also, I imagine there is some 5-day govt standard we must follow.

Hi Tom, I don't know if you saw it already, but I wrote about the benefits of a 4-day work week in Newburyport last month.
