Awarded to Amy Harmon of The New York Times for her striking examination of the dilemmas and ethical issues that accompany DNA testing, using human stories to sharpen her reports.
Also nominated as finalists in this category were: Beth Daley of The Boston Globe for her evocative exploration of how global warming affects New Englanders, from ice fishermen to blueberry farmers, and the Staff of the Oregonian, Portland, for its richly illustrated reports on a breakthrough in producing the microprocessors that are a technological cornerstone of modern life.

Pultizers are in.
Nothing for the Daily News. (No shame. Most Newspapers don't even win one.) But alumn Beth Daley was a finalist in the explanatory writing category.

No Pulitzer for the Daily, I still have my fingers crossed for the Nobel.
They have quite a physics dept over there.
I recall hearing a statistic that there are more Nobel winners in Massachusetts than any other state, mostly due to the influence of Harvard and MIT. Regardless, I would not be surprised if a Newburyport resident or scientist wins a Nobel.
But if you said an Ig Nobel... now you're talking!
Whoever finds a mutually agreeable solution to the NRA lots certainly will deserve one.
In reply to Ari's comment: Newburyport native Robert Mulliken won the Nobel prize in chemistry sometime in the 1960s. A street in the industrial park is named after him.
Well, since it was so long ago we can give Ari a Mulliken on that.
GET IT?
Oh....you can't pay for humor this good. Nor should you.
Thanks, Denis. I looked him up at both the official Nobel site and the more lay Wiki entry.
Smart guy...who got his BS at MIT.
That was 1966. No more winners since? How about Pulitzer, Oscar, or Grammy? I heard there's an Emmy winner who recently moved to High Street, no? I remember Mary Eaton blogging about him last year...
Rounder record has many grammies.

THere was an oscar winner who lived on high street a few years back, he wrote the screen play for Breaker Morant. I don't recall his name.
Bryan Eaton, of the Daily News, was part of a Pulitzer Team at the Eagle Tribune.
Jay Schadler, formerly of Plum Island has an Emmy
Benjamin Jellison of Newburyport won the Medal of Honor for bravery at Gettysburg.
I came in second and third in my two Pinewood Derbies. (Well, the third place trophy actually was awarded to the best looking car. But my resume needs boosting.)
