Visited Philbricks the "Whole Foods" style shop up in Portsmouth yesterday. Nice place and it got me wishing that we had a more comprehensive natural food store in Port.
Tendercrop and the Natural Grocer are great, but wouldn't it be fantastic if they and other locals could partner up to offer a larger store downtown.
Maybe Karp would kick in the capital to make it happen.

Tom, I think it happened while you were away from Newburyport, but the Lagasses (pre-Karp) had an agreement in place with a Boston/Cambridge area produce market (I forget the name) to come to town. It would have been located where Newburyport lighting is right now. It was almost definite that they were coming according to Chuck, then something happened (I'm not sure what) that put a wrench in the works and it feel through.
It was part of Ann and Chuck's goal of making the downtown and especially the waterfront, more of a living downtown, one that would support more residences and hopefully help get more people to live downtown.
Too bad. That would have been a nice spot.
Perfect location for something like that. I hope it's not dead, but if so, that there's another opportunity to get such a place downtown. The idea of having a "living downtown" is fantastic.
