I have to agree with your list and beyond.
This year, I was determined to travel no more than five miles for all my xmas shopping, and anything I could not find would be bought on the internet.
I would say I was able to purchase over 60% of the total $ value locally. Here is what I could not get:
- electronics: a toy, a GPS receiver, a camera. Certain things pop up in some lists that just simply cannot be substituted ;-).
- books/music: no, no, I did not ignore Newburyport's wonderful book and music stores, in fact these made it to the top of my suppliers list, but every year I use an oversee's on-line retailer for sending gifts to my relatives, for obvious mailing costs reasons.
So can we do, let's say 80% of our holiday shopping in downtown Newburyport? Absolutly.
Not having to drive anywhere other than a few miles seemed to have made these holidays so much more relaxing.
I agree completely. 80% sounds reasonable.
And we ran into similar issues buying gifts for relatives living away. Hence the Internet buys.
