I'm taking a bit of blogging holiday so pardon the lack of posts and slow comment moderation.
But I have to ask this.
Did people really call the fireworks organizers to complain about the show as the Daily News suggested? What in the world did people want them to do. It rained every single day.
Yes, I was largely unimpressed by the show this year. But blame the weather, not the volunteer organizers who bust their butts to pull this thing together.
I personally commend them for making the right decision under difficult conditions.
Now, with that out of the way, I certainly hope the organizers find a way to make it work next year. I have a hard time believing the placement of one building will slow things down.

Yeatville people complain about everything.
It certainly sucked this year.
But no one I know blamed the organizers.
Please don't let the few locals (not natives, but people who like to say they are) control the discussion.
Those of us that love the port, love the port.

As a longtime resident (but not a native), I take offense to what I see as SDS's slam "Yeatville people complain about everything". I know many people who complained about the fireworks, and they are not what I think you mean by "Yeatville" types. Stereotyping like this is narrowminded and counterproductive. "Some just hate everything, and it shows"? Let's lighten up, SDS.

Let's ease up here. I don't see what anonymous said as a "complaint." He/she was reacting to what I also see as a overgeneralization by SDS and a shot what he called "Yeatville people." Is this civil discourse? I don't think so. Natives or non-natives, longtimers or newcomers or in between, we all deserve respect, not stereotyping.

there are no "yeatville people". of course you can't stereotype groups of people. i thought that we all knew this.
as for people who complained, what did they complain about?
the weather? thats the only thing that they should be complaining about. thats not a problem, i complained about the weather. the point of the post was people complaining about things not under anyones (but a small butterfly in japan) control.
i was referring to some people in this city (and country & world) that take a negative attitude about many issues, most without actually taking an issue with the real subject.
the phrase "yeatville people" is meant to group a small but vocal nebulous group of people who complain about quite a bit, and usually with no other goals or ideas.
and yeatville is just a tip of the hat to ari for bringing this word to our collective vocabulary.
and anon, i don't have any preconceived notions about you even though your not from around here ;)

I heard some people complaining, but I think for the most part the majority understand that there really wasn't anyone to blame. Even New York City had a problem with the fog and humid atmosphere one year and you couldn't see them from the ground. What can you do? More upsetting is the fact that they may be scrapped completely because of the carriage house that will be erected on Cashman Park. That would be a real shame.
