Can we have one too?
Mr. Karp could do far worse than opening one of these downtown. Ideally, the store would offer predominantly locally grown foods.

My husband and I talk about this all the time. We live in the South End, and having a place like this within walking distance would be fantastic. Sure, we've got Joppa Fine Foods, which is a fabulous place to zip off to when unexpected guests arrive and we've got no food in the house.
A market like this would THRIVE and make the downtown a very, very desireable place to live and shop.
I feel the same way about Grand Trunk on Pleasant Street. They do a great job with the space they have, but the downtown could use more.
Trader Joe's has a great "small footprint" store downstairs below street level on Boylston St, Boston near Berklee College. Nice hybrid of everyday foods and 'something special' foods. This model could easily fit downtown,in a Towle type building, etc. IMO. They refer to themselves as "your neighborhood grocery store".
I do hope we get one too! My wife and I spend 10 days every May in New York City for business, and there is a Whole Foods Market a couple of blocks from our hotel. We used to eat out at restuarants, but with the amazing selection of excellent produce and foods at the WFM, we find we can have really nice meals in our hotel suite w/kitchen without the killing expense of eating out.
It would be a real plus for the residents of the older part of the city to have a grocery store like the one at Pinehills. Many households don't have large families, and many of us have schedules that don't lend themselves to standard meal planning (meetings, meetings, meetings!). Wouldn't it be great to have a place that one could walk to and buy the evenings meal without having to drive out to the Plaza?
Whether or not this would be financially viable is another story, but I think it would be a wonderful compliment to any residential component to either Water Front West or East.
