And now a word from our sponsor

Kate Yeomans, who interned at the Daily News back in The Day and has one of the best nautical-themed names ever, agreed to buy me a large coffee at Plum Island roasters if I ran a plug for her new venture.

I couldn't, in good conscience, run the entire press release. But here's a sampling.

BOAT CAMP Inc., a new nonprofit marine education program based in Newburyport, MA, is accepting registration for spring and summer. After 19 years with Coastal Discoveries, Rob and Kate Yeomans formed BOAT CAMP Inc. last fall in order to expand and diversify marine education offered in the community.

And the Web site for Boat Camp.

I am now a paid blogger. Don't tell the IRS.

In all seriousness, programs like this and Coastal Discoveries are yet another reason I love living in this city. Good stuff. (Now I just have to convince her to waive the eight-year-old age minimum and take The Boy out for a few longish vogages this summer.)

Kate also is a supporter of bringing more environmental science to the City and region as a member of SEED's aspirational science networking site "Newburyport University". See www.newburyportu.com

As a parent and customer of Coastal Discoveries, I need some enlightenment. Was this an amicable split from Bob and Lee Yoemans and Coastal Discoveries? Can someone explain the difference betweeen the two programs?

I'm afraid I didn't ask.

I suppose your best bet would be to call Kate. Her number is on the web site provided. Maybe call Coastal as well?

Good luck and thanks for reading.

I heard it’s a matter of picking a boat. If your kids want to go aboard the Erica Lee II, then sign up again with Coastal Discoveries. If your kids want to go aboard the Erica Lee, then sign up with BOAT CAMP. Both websites explain more, but it’s really pretty simple, and both boats do some really great things with kids.

Rob and I have worked together with Bob and Lee for upwards of 20 years—Rob all of his life—and we anticipate continuing to do so for many more years to come. Just as we each run our own deep-sea fishing charter businesses (www.ericalee.net and www.ericaleeii.com), we are each offering our own marine education programs. Kids who participated in Coastal Discoveries on the Erica Lee in the past will not notice too much of a difference this summer aboard our Erica Lee with BOAT CAMP. Coastal Discoveries is a phenomenal program, and our experiences with Coastal Discoveries inspired us to take what we’ve learned a step further and expand and diversify the marine education programming that we offer onboard, namely teacher workshops and school field trips. We collectively believe there are plenty of families in town who can and will benefit from our diverse programs, and our family is really looking forward to a great summer!
