Comina Comes to Town

It appears as if the high-end furniture shoppers will not be disappointed. A new shop, Comina, is moving into the old Ashley & Barnes storefront at the post office end of Pleasant Street.

I won't try to describe the business. Go here.

However, it's worth noting Comina appears to be family-owned. However, this family owns and operates shops in seven other locations: West Hartford and Mystic in Conn.; Providence and Watch Hill, RI; Marblehead, Concord and Wellesley in Mass. Those are some neighborhoods.

If I can recall correctly, this type of business would have been permitted under the chain store ban.

I'm excited about this one. Grew up with it in CT and most recently in the 'Head. I think it'll be a nice fit.

hi,

i think you are correct on the chain store ban concept.

this seems to be the type of store that would work well.

one of the things we need in the city are stores like this (although i've got something else to say in a bit).

much like Not Your Average Joes, since they have multiple outlets they can use profits from stores that make money one year to keep ones that don't open.

as we all know there are trends over the long-term, but also short term issues.

when you only have one place then everything depends on a year to year positive income. but with multiple then you can take a downturn in one area and wait until it gets better.

they are quite dispersed (i went to school in west hartford, interesting city, much different than yeatville).

that all said, i can't imagine i would ever purchase anything from them. but thats just me.

thanks,
sds

This is great news. Nice to see that big empty space is being filled.
