Warning

Some genius decided to fix the buzzer at the Bank of America ATM in Market Square. Now you actually have to use the card to enter.

Sigh, we've lost our surest way of identifying tourists and visitors to the downtown.

You guys realise that for natives, anyone not born in Newburyport is a carpetbagger or at worst a tourist.
and for some, unless your family has been here at least 10 generations you still a short timer.
I wish i were joking.

Good point Sammy.

I hate to break this to the natives but that has been standard operating procedure in every small to medium-sized town that I've ever lived in. It's not that a unique position.

So I really stopped caring about that years ago. My fragile self esteem couldn't handle the judgment.

Thanks for posting.

Hi,

10 generations? its 14.2 (based on the US definition of generation).

if you can't point at your relatives on the stone at the parker, you are not a native.

if you can't be a son & daughter, you are not a native.

the funny thing is the only people who really seem to care about this are the ones that are not natives. they moved here and now want to tell anyone who came later than them, that they are natives and how to run their life.

those of us who are the sons & daughters know that many people that moved in suck. and many others don't.

we were kicked out of England and came to the colonies, and then we were kicked out of Ipswich. many do not look down on others that moved here later.

so please, understand that most of the people who scream and yell about how all you "new people" ruined this town/city were at one time also "new people".

we don't like them either.

tom, great statement at the end of your comment. life is too short to listen to people who complain about everything since they don't like anything.

if anyone tells you that you are a carpetbagger. then just ask them one question.

point to a member of your family on this list?
